Recently, I was interviewed for an article by Stylecaster about the common sexual incompatibilities faced by couples and how to work through them. Most, if not all couples, at some point in their relationship have to deal with a disagreement with their partner regarding sex. Whether it's about mismatched desire, frequency of sex, the positions, the timing, who wants control in the bedroom or playing with kink- couples are bound to face at least one of these issues, if not more. In fact, sex is one of the top two reasons for arguments among couples, the other one being money.

Having a disagreement with your partner about what you both want sexually, does not spell doom for the relationship. In fact, couples in long term relationships are likely to go through phases where they find themselves completely out of sync with each other sexually. Especially, after a life changing event such as pregnancy, child birth or death of a loved one, it's very common and even normal to experience that your desire for sex is not on the same level as your partner. The same goes for your sexual preferences- maybe two years ago you enjoyed anal sex and now you feel meh about it but your partner is still really into it. Maybe you want to explore BDSM and dive into some kink play to change things up but your partner is feeling unsure or even afraid. All hope is not lost! You might be able to navigate these disagreements on your own with the help of a few practical tips but if you need additional support & guidance, working with a trained sex therapist can be extremely helpful.
